DME Unlock BMW & MINI (Send In ECU).

Does your BMW or MINI have a Bosch MG1CS003, an MD1CP002, or a DME9 (MG1CS221)? Then we can't unlock the engine computer in Elburg. For those cars, we remove the DME and ship it out. After that, your car is tunable through the OBD port with bootmod3, MHD, and other common platforms.

Since August 2026, we can unlock most locked BMW and MINI engine computers ourselves, including those from after June 2020. For three control units, that's not yet possible: the Bosch MG1CS003, the MD1CP002, and the DME9 (MG1CS221) from the new S68 engines. Those need to go to the manufacturer of our tool.

Which option do you choose?

• Bosch MG1CS003 or MD1CP002, one ECU. The four- and six-cylinders. Which control unit is in your car depends on model and production date; we check that before we start.
• DME9 (Bosch MG1CS221), two ECUs. The 4.4 V8 S68. That engine always has two engine computers, and the price covers both.

• M5 G90 and G99 (2024 and newer)
• XM G09 (2022 and newer), including the Red Label
• X5 G05 and X5M F95 from the 2023 facelift: M60i and X5M Competition
• X6 G06 and X6M F96 from the 2023 facelift: M60i and X6M Competition
• X7 G07 from the 2023 facelift: M60i
• 7 Series G70 (2023 and newer): 760i and M60i
• Alpina XB7

For these models, it depends on the car

Among others, the 3 Series G20/G21, 4 Series G22/G23/G26, 5 Series G30/G31, 6 Series GT G32, 7 Series G11/G12, 8 Series G14/G15/G16, X3 G01, X4 G02, X5 G05, X7 G07, Z4 G29, 2 Series G42, and X1 U11 sometimes have an MG1CS003 and sometimes an MG1CS201. In the latter case, we simply do the unlock in-house and you won't need this listing.

Note: what matters is the production date, not the date on your registration document. A car that rolled off the line in May 2020 may not have been registered until months later.

These lists are a snapshot

New control units that we can unlock ourselves are added regularly, and BMW has switched engine computers partway through the same models and model years. So the model and model year alone don't always tell you whether your car needs to be sent out, and these lists can lag behind what's currently possible.

You'll only know for sure once we read out your car at our shop. Then we see exactly which control unit is in there. If it turns out we can do it in-house after all, you're a lot cheaper and faster off with the bench unlock, and we'll make up the difference.

What we do

We carefully remove the DME from your car and ship it out to be unlocked. The pins are small and closely spaced, so removal takes a steady hand. Afterward, we reinstall the unlocked DME and read/write access via OBD is open.

Your car stays safely at our workshop the whole time. Want to keep driving? Rent a loaner car for €35 excl. VAT per day.

What's included

• The initial read-out, so we know for sure which DME is in there and whether it needs to be shipped out.
• Removing and reinstalling the DME, both DMEs for the S68.
• Storage of your car during the process.
• The unlock itself, after which your car is tunable via bootmod3, MHD, and other OBD platforms.

Coding or tuning your car and a test drive aren't included. You purchase a tune separately from us, see below.

Turnaround time

Plan on about 3 business days. It sometimes takes a bit longer, depending on shipping. We record the shipping arrangements on a form when you drop off your car.

Good to know

• During the unlock, the DME returns to factory state. If a tune was already on it, that's permanently gone.
• The S68 (DME9) has two engine computers. Both go along and both are included in the price, so you only need to order this listing once.
• A dealer update is no problem. The unlock stays intact. Should OBD access drop after such an update, we'll reactivate it.
• The unlock is safe and doesn't affect factory performance until you have a tune installed yourself.

Tuning afterward

Once your car is unlocked, we can tune it too. With our own software or with a tune from the bootmod3 platform. Check out our ECU tuning or ask about it at your appointment.
